Hauling The Nets, Phippsburg, Maine by Kathi Dugan
Maine Fishermen, of generations past, haul in the nets for a generous catch on a beautiful, sunlit day.
This was the 2nd request by the owner of my recently painted commission, "It Was A Very Good Day." His father and grandfather were the subjects of the first portrait and they were also present in this black and white photo. I was asked to transform the black and white into color. Fortunately, having had a copy of the the colored reference photo still on hand and, having painted the scene once, I was familiar with the colors of the dories and the clothing. Having once painted the same faces, I was able to keep the likeness of each, in a much smaller size!
