Artist Statement
From early childhood I have always had a very active imagination. I believed dolls and toys came to life when humans were absent or sleeping; I spent time on “hunting expeditions”, armed with a capped glass jar (holes punched in the cover, of course!) in order to find and capture a fairy. I had no problem fabricating fantastic worlds out of ordinary objects and creating interactive dramas with playmates, based upon my vision.
As an artist, I most enjoy my work when something- be it an expression, a scene, an object of curiosity or beauty- catches my attention and calls me to encapsulate it onto canvas, telling it’s story. I find it to be a continual and satisfying challenge, transforming a vision of my mind’s eye into a painting, in a manner that captures a new beholder with the same beauty that inspired me.
When an onlooker becomes a participant, even for one magical moment, lifted from the ordinaire of life to the intangible extraordinary, I feel I have successfully done my job.
